Poems by Michael Anthony Aranda

Something About You

Morning sun rise and shine
Upholding tobacco
Smoke jolt rise me up
Feel it all slip away

Something about you feeds me
Something about you bleeds me

Police beat gender-choosing youths
Upholding tobacco, upholding tobacco
PC irony

Comatose it all looks the same
Emotion sickness
I wash my face to hide
What is dirty inside

Something about you

Blinds shut, early rise
Ample waste
Upholding tobacco
Feel it all slip away

Something about you feeds me
Something about you bleeds me
Something about you feeds me
Something about you bleeds me
Feeling it all slip away

Police beat
Police beat gender-choosing youths
Upholding tobacco, upholding tobacco
PC irony
Smoke jolt, feel it all slip away

Nothing Funny, Nothing Laughs.

I roam these halls.
I peer through walls.
I search this land.
This is my home.
I'll never show my face.

Interpretation involves assumption,
Negotiation of Selves
See reason to satisfy others' needs
Another way of avoiding confrontation.
Can't fight? Can't flee? Flow.
Focus on the Now
Feel light of this for awhile…

Misinformed.

Subtle shift; conception
Nothing funny, nothing laughs.

Quiet
Shots
Horse shoes
Gun
Wrath

Lost cause --
Fiddles,
African drums

Living as normal a life as possible was important.
Ant fire; ad hominem
Ruse.

My kingdom has fallen
Quicksand.
My foundation has cracked
Crumbled.

Never the same thing twice.

Maybelline

Each word I write is its own universe
Different contexts
It differentiates from your syntax
I detract and you react, I know
Your looks speak louder than your acts

Are you understanding yet or do I need to speak more plainly?

Little minds, limited comprehension.
Don't feel bad; don't worry
It's upon us all
On our heads, detracting our senses
Making us numb to each other; feelings don't matter
Maybe we're born this way; maybe we're born into this
Maybe it's Maybelline

It doesn't matter; it's in us all.

Know Nothing For Sure

I can't find it; it has to come to me
Nothing changes a fact, if there is such a thing
Recycled bits and pieces don't always equal a sum
That is whole
What is everything and nothing at all?
If my words could've supported me
I would have flown

If anything, I want nothing at all
No memory
No connections
Nothing at all to do with this

Feel comfortable with myself:
Construction through deconstruction kind of thing
It doesn't mean anything, but it has meaning

I don't believe anything
Without disbelieving, I believe everything
I don't know anything
I know that I am discontent with cohesion
Within content
There is content within nothing at all

Know nothing for sure
If you want to learn anything at all, know nothing for sure.

Ernie Kovacs

Politics
Cheap props handled with dirty paws
Propaganda; the truth is hidden
Not what was intended
Unless, of course
…The Freemasonry
Detestable, elitist, corrupt
Unapologetic and all-knowing

Valued smiles
In the glow of neon lights
And flashing cameras
Dollar for dollar
Worthwhile?

They've always got an eye on you

The truth is a lie
A politic
Ernie would agree; rest in peace
Comrade

Biographical sketch: Name: Michael Aranda
Place: Seattle, WA
Birth: March 29, 1982

Michael Anthony Aranda recommends:

Selected Poems (1947-1995) by Allen Ginsberg

Reason: Ginsberg's poetry has a way of creeping into your soul, making you feel every word as though you experienced every syllable.

Recommendations for writers:

Always remember that, first and foremost, you should be writing for yourself and your own salvation; don't decieve your audience. Write honestly, for yourself, then represent to the audience your work without explanation. Let them accept you.
